Down for the count

June / Wednesday, June 13th, 2018

Today I’m going to dive into the extensive list of injured pitchers currently on the Disabled List. (Be prepared, this ones a long one)

One of the biggest injuries in my opinion is Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani suffered a grade two UCL strain and anytime you hear the word ACL or UCL you know it cant be good. Reports are swirling about him possibly undergoing Tommy John surgery but nothing final has been set nor has the club commented. On Thursday, “Ohtani underwent platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) and stem cell injections to help alleviate pain and inflammation and to facilitate healing” per ESPN . Ohtani is currently batting .289 with 6 HR’s and is 4-1 pitching wise with a .289 ERA.

The Dodgers are currently without ace Clayton Kershaw, who joined an almost full rotation of Dodgers on the DL with back discomfort. The Dodgers are no strangers to the DL this year but have somehow managed to remain in the running for the NL West title trailing the Diamondbacks by just two games while we wait for the return of Kershaw, Hill(blister), Maeda (Right hip strain), Ryu ( Left groin strain), and the rookie sensation Walker Buehler who just landed his first DL stint yesterday with a right rib micro fracture.

Some other key pitchers that are currently hurt, Chris Archer is currently on the DL with a left abdominal strain and is expected back this month. Masahiro Tanaka suffered a mild strain in both hamstrings on June 8th and isn’t expected back till late June/early July. Noah Syndergaard suffered a ligament strain in his right index finger and is expected to return sometime this June. Yu Darvish is on the DL with right tricep tendinitis and is going to resume throwing on June 12 with no set return date. Lastly Stephen Strasberg was placed on the DL on June 9th with right shoulder inflammation and also has no set return date.  Thanks for reading and Happy Hump day !

      1. You think we’ll make a splash before the trade deadline? We have lots of prospects and too many outfielders. Heard Machados name being thrown out there amongst others. Maybe a trade for a dominant pitcher, like what Houston did last year. Definately payed them dividends!
