With the first official weekend of Baseball complete, I found it somewhat concerning to hear that some veteran pitchers had some rough starts to the season. Rumors are currently swirling regarding Astros pitcher Justin Verlander. It was initially reported that he was out for the season with an elbow strain. Verlander was quick to take to Twitter to defend himself saying “The report that I’m currently missing the rest of the season is not accurate.. There is a forearm strain.. I’m hopeful that with some rest it will heal and I’ll be able to return soon”. Clayton Kershaw also joined the list of pitchers currently on the IL. Just hours before he was due to start Thursdays Opening Day game, it was announced that he would not be pitching due to back stiffness. Dave Roberts has stated that his return is tentative. Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani made his return to the mound Sunday and it was not the performance we had all hoped for. He pitched a total of 30 pitches, didn’t record a single out, walked three batters and left the game down 4-0. He was eventually charged with five earned runs and the Angels lost 6-4. Rangers pitcher Corey Kluber was another pitcher that had an early exit on Sunday. He pitched a total of 18 pitches and was removed in the first inning due to shoulder tightness. Injuries are never fun especially with such a short season where every game means so much. All in all it felt so good to spend my entire weekend completely inhaling every single homer, double play, and strikeout… oh how Ive missed Baseball !
Trouble already ?
